The Gardens of Florence - The Anconella Park

Mainly formed by a wood of beautiful white poplars, it extends for several kilometers on the left bank of the Arno, on the eastern city outskirts. Very popular, it offers beautiful views of the river, at that point continuously crossed by the rowing boats of the Municipal Rowing Club, based at the very beginning of the park. At the end of the park you come across a very particular building: a 1: 5 scale reproduction (truncated to allow the view of the internal structure) of the Dome of the Duomo built by Filippo Brunelleschi in 1436. This miniature building was erected in 2007 for study purposes by Massimo Ricci, professor at the Architecture University of Florence, and by his students. Bricks, arranged in a herringbone pattern like the ones for the original Cupola, were used together with reproductions of ancient tools (tie rods, ropes, plumb line, movable wooden ribs, hand pulleys). A real “hands-on” seminar. Entrance from via di Villamagna and Piazza Ravenna.
