The Gardens of Florence - Il Giardino dell'Orticoltura

Another green oasis a few steps from the historic center, easy to reach on foot. Built for scientific botanical experiments in 1859 by the Georgofili Academy, an institution founded in the 1700s for the study of agricultural techniques and gardening, it was and still is the site of floriculture and garden tools exhibitions. In the center, the Renaissance-style and recently restored Loggetta Bondi (remarkable the frieze around the roof in glazed polychrome terracotta with cherubs and garlands, Della Robbia-style), built in 1911 by the Manifattura di Signa, one of the oldest Tuscan ceramic workshops of artistic terracotta. Transformed into a public park in 1930, inside there is also a great coffee bar and a library, small but very popular! Entrance from Via Bolognese and Via Vittorio Emanuele II.
