Tony Cragg at the Museo Novecento

Tony Cragg, the world-famous British artist, is on display at the Museo Novecento with his anthological exhibition titled Transfer.

Cragg's interest has been oriented since the beginning of his career, in the seventies, on matter and form, with assemblages of objects reminiscent of the Duchampian ready-made.

He later begins to experiment with the most disparate materials, such as bronze, resins, plastic, steel, plaster, wood and glass, ending up introducing new materials and techniques, revolutionizing the sculptural language.

Having become famous in the 1980s, the artist has a long and prolific career behind him, which is retraced in this exhibition.

He dedicates himself not only to sculpture, but also to graphic art, as demonstrated by the numerous drawings and watercolors on display.

Drawing is precisely the expressive means with which the artist begins his creative process, studying and developing the forms that he will then create in 3D.

Cragg constantly draws inspiration from nature, from its infinite forms, compositions and structures, which have always fascinated him.

He manipulates and distorts the shape, giving life to ambiguous sculptures that can recall landscapes and elements or geometries extrapolated from nature, but also anthropomorphic figures.

The three monumental works in the cloister and the one in the Men's Courtyard of the Istituto degli Innocenti are added to the works on display which occupy two floors of the museum.
A must-see exhibition for all lovers of sculpture and contemporary art in Florence!
