Elliott Erwitt in Florence

Villa Bardini hosts another major exhibition dedicated to photography, Elliott Erwitt. Photographs, which celebrates the long career of one of the most famous photographers in the world.
A collection of about 70 images personally selected by Ewitt, who celebrated his 94th birthday this year, which capture the perfect moment as only great photographers can do.

Images that celebrate his long career and at the same time constitute a cross-section of the 20th century, revealing the truest and most human side of personalities who have made the history of politics and cinema.

On display we find very famous images, which are now part of our collective memory, such as those portraying Marylin Monroe, whom Erwitt knew very well and therefore was able to capture without the mask she had to wear in front of the cameras, or the famous portrait of Che Guevara smiling and those of Kerouac, Marlene Dietrich and Jackie Kennedy at her husband's funeral, and again the shot that captures the animate discussion between Nixon and Khrushchev.

He also shows us his romantic side with a selection dedicated to love and a personal side of him with the private photos of his daughter and with his playful self-portraits.

Erwitt does not only portray people, the other great protagonists of his photographs are his beloved dogs, a metaphor for mankind, which he uses in his shots in an ironic and ingenious way. Famous is the cihuahua in a sweater and all those images created for fashion shootings by choosing to use the dog's point of view.

This exhibition reveals once again how Elliott Erwitt was able to tell reality with lightness and intelligence, it would be a pity if you missed the opportunity to see it. You have until January 22nd, 2023.
