Passione Novecento. From Paul Klee to Damien Hirst at Palazzo Medici Ricardi

Passione Novecento. From Paul Klee to Damien Hirst inaugurates at Palazzo Medici Riccardi, an exhibition that brings together 38 works of Twentieth-century art belonging to private collections that the public will be able to admire together for the first time.

Among the big artists on display we find Paul Klee, de Chirico, Morandi, Fontana, Burri, Warhol, Lichtenstein, Ai Weiwei, Cecily Brown and Damien Hirst.

Significant is the choice of the location of excellence, Palazzo Medici Riccardi, once the residence of the Medici, to emphasize the importance of collecting and patronage in Florence. It was here that with Cosimo the Elder, the Florentine family of bankers began to commission important works to excellent artists. Also here Lorenzo the Magnificent took the young Michelangelo Buonarroti under his wing.

Florentine patronage, which developed with the Medici family in the Renaissance period, was then carried on in the following centuries, by personalities such as Stefano Bardini and Frederick Stibbert, also great collectors who loved the arts and invested their resources in surrounding themselves with extraordinary artworks, later bequeathed to the city.

The exhibition reveals how collecting is still alive today in the Florentine metropolitan area, where many of the works on display come from, and gives visitors a unique opportunity to admire these artworks otherwise kept in private dwellings.

At the end of the exhibition, these masterpieces will return to their owners, so it is a chance not to be missed for lovers of Twentieth-century art.
