Llewelyn Lloyd and the colors of Tuscany

Surprising as it may seem given his Welsh name, the british-italian painter Llewelyn Lloyd was actually born in Livorno.
He is the sole protagonist of the new exhibition at Villa Bardini, the perfect venue for his luminous and colorful paintings, that gathers together 62 works focused on his depiction of Tuscan Landscapes.

The artist, was originally set to pursue a career in commerce, but against the wishes of his uncle, Lloyd preferred to study art in the studio of Guglielmo Micheli. Here he met Modigliani, Romiti, Martinelli, Ghiglia and Fattori, whom he followed to Florence, where he came to live at the turn of the 20th century.
Here he also got to know Telemaco Signorini and Adriano Cecioni and he followed the courses held by Fattori at the Accademia di Belle Arti of Florence, and in time became a member of the post-macchiaioli movement.
Fascinated by chromatic relationships, he is best know for his landscapes, particularly rose-hued sunsets, seaside landscapes, and beautiful views of Florence.
In 1907 he travelled to Elba and he painted the costs in all their beauty: the coasts were subjects of his paintings: burning sunsets, pinkish dawns, wide marine views and inland landscapes.
The Elba island is the great protagonist of the exhibition "Loyd. Tuscan landscapes of the Twentienth Century", whose panoramic views are flanked by those of Florence and the countryside painted form the 1930's.

A section of the exibition dedicated to the graphic aspect of Lloyd's creative process.
The drawing collection displayed in a separate corner conveys a feeling of intimacy and familiarity, also given to the fact that the subject of his depiction is mostly his family and the inside of his house.

Romantic and idyllic, the Tuscany seen through the eyes of Lloyd will make you dream. This is definetly an exhibiton not to be missed!
