Beyond Renaissance in Florence - Il Villino Broggi - Caraceni, an Art Nouveau masterpiece
Built in 1911 by the architect
Giovanni Michelazzi (1879 - 1920), it is considered one of the most significant
Italian Art Nouveau buildings, certainly the most interesting in Florence.
Michelazzi was a very refined architect, even if unfortunately he
designed very few works, committing suicide in 1920 at the age of 41. His style
is characterized by very fine elaborations of the wall surfaces consisting of
pictorial and stucco decorations, polychrome windows, wrought iron, artificial
stone, crystal and ceramics. For the ceramics, the workshop of Galileo Chini
(1973 - 1956), one of the most important artists of the time, was commissioned.
An internal skylight decorated with the unusual figure of a large spider
weaving the web is very particular and quoted. Below detail of the central window. Florence, via Scipione Ammirato
