The new Giunti Odeon

Ph: Giunti Odeon

The historic Cinema Odeon in Florence is transformed and becomes Giunti Odeon, a multi-function space that will act as both a cinema and a bookshop.
After several controversies and doubts that arose among the Florentine population during the renovation works, the 1,500 square meter space was inaugurated on November 13th and seems to have met with success, especially among young students.

Florence once had the Edison and Martelli café-bookstores, places where you could meet with friends, have a coffee, read books or study. Today these places no longer exist and it is increasingly rare to find spaces where you can stop for more than a little while to study outside of public libraries.
The new Giunti Odeon seems to have helped fill this gap in the historic center of Florence, while maintaining its function as a cinema.

The project initially envisaged that the cinema would close, but fortunately there was a change of course and now the ground floor is being used as a bookshop, with exhibitors and a café restaurant, while on the second floor the cinema seats remain and the coffee tables for anyone who wants to study and read were added.
The restoration of this historic space has brought back luster to the glass dome, now well lit, as well as the tapestries, and brought to light architectural and decorative elements such as the fountains and the decorations on the columns.

Giunti Odeon is open every day, from 8.30 a.m. as a bookshop and in the evening when film screenings take place. The stage will be used for the presentations of books, films and art exhibitions, for workshops and concerts.
