Cindy Sherman: Early Works

CINDY SHERMAN: EARLY WORKS
11th January  – 9th June 2013

Museo Gucci, Piazza della Signoria, Florence

Curated by Francesca Amfitheatrof.

Cindy Sherman is a pioneer of photography as an art form. Currently living in New York, where she is working alone acting both as actor and director, she portrays characters using herself as the object and with the use of makeup and clothes she literarily transforms herself into the subjects whose life story she explores. Following her graduation in 1976 whilst living in Buffalo, Sherman, together with Charles Clough, Longo and Sherman created Hallwalls, an arts center. The center was a snapshot of Buffalo in the late 1970s, a city which had gained a reputation as a model laboratory for artists interested in dismantling boundaries between media. This exhibition includes some of her early works.
